Pretty excited about the show opening this Friday, May 6th at the brand new Famous Four Colors gallery space in Oakland. I will have 2 exclusive prints available in limited amounts. Unfortunately, due to my recent schedule, I won't have any original work but the rest of the artists in the show will more than make up for it. They're all great. If you're in the area, please show up and show support for a local business that's busting their asses.

Our goal is to educate the public in the art of screen-printing, while providing a medium for local artists to display their work. As well as creating a platform for artists, w...e aim to engage youth in the skills of artisan entrepreneurship via education and mentoring.

The Famous Four Colors Screen Print Collective is opening a permanent spacious gallery in the front of our industrial screen-printing shop in downtown Oakland — original fine art will be featured, as well as screen-printed replications of that art on posters and clothing.

The gallery is opening Friday May 6th with new works from Sirron Norris, MR. Shane Jessup, Tim Diet, Ray Robinson, Orly Locquiao, Marcos LaFarga and Daniel Albrigo.

A lot of people that know me really well probably don't even know that I was 'training' to tattoo before I got in to computers and graphic work (unless they're cursed with my permanent markings). I probably only did about 25 tattoos total but only a few of them were what I should have been attempting. I'm not much of a 'what-if' kind of guy but seeing so many of my friends move in to the tattoo field and excelling beyond comprehension, along with questioning if I want to sit in front of a computer all day anymore, it has been coming up a lot lately as an internal dialogue. This video brought up a lot of those questions again.

I couldn't afford to go to college. Actually, take that back. I guess I could have made it work, plenty of people do, but I didn't care or even wanted to think how to plan out the rest of my life and drop a lot of money on it at age 18. I was young and out of high school, last thing on my mind was going back to school. I loved and only focused on graffiti for years while managing a skate shop and running a graffiti mail order company out of there, which spawned Phantom Magazine, delivering pizzas, then on to office supplies while I saved up to buy a computer. I was given 2 paths at an important time in my life: continue to learn to tattoo, or take a job at Santa Cruz Skateboards in the Art Department, which is a dream come true to a small town Texas boy that loved nothing more than skateboarding, even though I was definitely a beginner and had plenty to learn in any design world (and still am). I did both for a couple of months, heading to the tattoo shop after work but it didn't last too long. I found my place, my peers, and was able to work with my heroes. Those heroes included the skateboarders I worked with and the people in the Art Department. Those people brought me to wherever I am now and I love them for it.

Back to the video. I knew the name NY Adorned for years before I moved to our horrible apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with DIET, SLIE, and J. Lee. Shortly after I met Daniel Santoro, and he eventually tattooed me at their East Village location. It was a great experience, hanging out on the back patio and catching up during breaks from our Permanent Vacation session. Adorned eventually opened up a Brooklyn location and I'd like to thank them for the block parties they threw on hot summer afternoons, those are some great Brooklyn memories. Daniel has moved on to Smith Street Tattoo in Brooklyn that holds an incredibly impressive roster and you should check them out when you can. You won't be disappointed.

Well its finally out and getting a lot of good feedback. Everyone involved worked really hard on this project and I'm proud to finally have it sitting on my coffee table. To coincide with the Art in the Streets exhibit opening at MoCA Los Angeles on Sunday, there is going to be a book launch and author signing. A lot of the artists featured in the book will be in attendance. You definitely don't want to miss this.

Recent releases that I have in constant rotation at the time being. Things are looking up again for hip hop music.

First up: Action Bronson. This album, Dr. Lecter, blew me away. Can't stop listening. The homie Mr. Kiji did the cover art, too. Favorite track = None, I like the whole album equally.

Next: Pharoahe Monch. One of my top 5 favorites of all time. New album is titled, W.A.R. (We Are Rengades). Favorite track = Assassins ft. Jean Grey and Royce 5'9".

Juxtapoz Magazine stopped by my old buddy, Grady Gordon's studio in Oakland the other day to document his process of creating his damn awesome monotype prints. You might have also seen his profile in the December issue of Juxtapoz.

Grady is one of those completely genuine, nice, and incredibly talented individuals that you start to secretly hate because they're better than you at everything and I'm glad to call him a friend even though I don't get to see him enough. Team Awesome Spring Break 95!

Definitely keep an eye out for Grady Gordon, I have a feeling this is going to be a huge year for him.

Obviously the photos above are borrowed and I'm sorry for not giving credit. I keep a folder of obsession images and just decided to post these up. If anyone can find me the Fresh Prince image that's not a scan of a magazine, I'll take care of you. At the very least, just need to know what magazine it was in or the photographer.

E28's were probably my favorite years of BMW design.

Below is photos of my 84' 533i, Beatrice, from the previous owner, it's not currently running but it still looks beautiful sitting there. Sit tight, B. We'll have you looking glamorous like you should be in no time.

I could go on and on about how I probably owe this guy for getting me any kind of start at what I do for a living now but instead I'll just ramble about how he's been such an influence to me and most likely anyone I know coming out of Santa Cruz, especially anyone in my crew. A timeless graffiti style (something I should have paid closer attention to at the time), his work for Santa Cruz Skateboards, design, animation, character design...James has always stood out as an individual to me and I'm thankful for that.

I could also go on about how great of a guy he is, but I won't right now. James currently runs TFU Studios out of Los Angeles and also has this blog where he's been dropping plenty of gems lately.

You might have seen his work on the instant classic Madvillain video, All Caps...

...and then shortly after, the Kidrobot produced Madvillain figure...

...followed by countless other projects. Make sure to check out the video he did for Biz Markie, also. James recently released the 3rd Volume of his comic, Nineteen Eighty Five. Available at Meltdown Comics among other fine establishments, you should pick this up for sure, he's been hand making the display stands himself and they're awesome.

Tools of Criminal Mischief.

Tools of Criminal Mischief is a fun project Roger Gastman wanted to put together after we had worked so long and hard on the soon-to-be-released "The History of American Graffiti" with Caleb Neelon (more info on that later). Roger pulled a lot of gems from his personal photo collection of 1940′s hobo train art, ’70s gang graffiti, vintage civilian graffiti, spray paint collectibles, ephemera and more. This was a lot of fun to put together, make sure to check out the spread of spraycan characters, guns, and especially, the boobies.

Roger's words - "The danger, history, process, spray cans, magic markers, and the local styles are just a few parts of graffiti that I fixate on. Different aspects interest me at different times, but what always continues to excite me is the oddity - especially pedestrian graffiti and the strange pop-culture references”.

New Works by Andres Guerrero and Albert Reyes features a pair of artists and longtime friends whose contrasting bodies of work show both ends of the contemplation spectrum. On the introspective side lies Guerrero, who describes his skull imagery as "symbolic self-portrait representation... a descriptive means of living through death." Reyes, on the other hand, blends his own experience into the contextual spheres of pop culture, politics, religion and life in L.A. "My view of the world is from L.A.," says Reyes. "My view is through the L.A. media, taking in the culture, the people, the vastness of L.A. No one can escape the Hollywood impact."

My old compadre´and fellow troublemaker, Andres Guerrero, has put the final touches on his new gallery space in San Francisco. I personally know how much time and energy has gone into building this place out and it appears to have been totally worth it. Looks like I'm going to have to take a trip up to the Bay on March 6th for the grand opening. If you followed White Walls Gallery (where Andres was a partner), you know his shows don't disappoint.

On my spare time, I've been getting my hands a little dirty working on this small project. The official opening will be March 6th, 2010. The gallery has been under development for the past 5 months. Walls crumbled and walls were built. The thing is that this space would have not been completed without all the help of friends that put in hours. All is owed to them. Now its time to get my hustle on to make there efforts worth while. Enjoy the pics and hopefully one of these days all of you will be able to enjoy the space in person. An old cohort and great friend of mine, Andres Guerrero has an opening with Albert Reyes this Saturday at Subliminal Projects in Echo Park. Really excited to see his new work. Andres was a partner in White Walls Gallery in San Francisco and was responsible for bringing you the great shows that come out of there. He has since moved on and will be opening Guerrero Gallery this Spring. Can't wait to see what he has in store for the space, knowing him it's going to be impressive. This guy never stops hustling and hasn't in the 14 or so years I've known him.

So on Saturday night, I did something stupid. While having a heated discussion with the best friends I've ever had in my life, I aired out our topic of discussion on Twitter concerning another old friend and his business. If you know me or have spent more than 20 minutes with me, you know that's not how I do things (unless you're a client that hasn't paid up, then I tend to do that).

I am in no way apologizing, just saying it's not my usual way of addressing an issue.

So after running my mouth, I figure I should explain myself a bit: We had a small crew. We did graffiti. Whether we ever made a dent or were ever noticed by anyone doesn't really matter. We were a family and we were having a lot of fun. CLOWN started the crew, it was his name and no one will argue that. I considered Marek, the now owner of the company I aired out, a good friend. I considered him family. The rest of the crew that was in the Northwest at the time vouched for him. I take that very seriously, I've spent more time with these guys than I have with anyone else in my life. We put him down. In the short time Marek was in the crew we painted together in a lot of cities, we had fun times. Hell, one of my favorite days ever painting was just me and him in Redmond. We rocked it. Good times, Time Is Too Short. We all have that tattooed on us. Marek does, too.

Things happen, people get older and have to take care of things. He disappeared. We considered him out of the crew, he was making music and pursuing a career outside of that but no contact with us. I was proud of Marek, bummed that we didn't keep in touch, but it was a good career he was entering. I might be wrong here, but I understand that no one in the crew had contact with him during this time.

Years later, I get a phone call from CLOWN. Marek was producing t-shirts, he stumbled upon it on Myspace of all things. No big deal, that's a good thing. But wait...he was using the crew name. As far as I knew, we hadn't had contact with the guy in a long time. While some of us weren't painting as much as we used to (I'm talking about me), this still ran deep. We've lost 2 crew members to untimely deaths, and I know he had been around for the loss of the first, a good friend of all of us from the Northwest. These tragedies have brought us all even closer together. This is in our skin. We're a family, we're the best group of friends I've ever had. Outside of my blood family, these guys were, and still are, pretty much the most consistent thing in my life for the last 15 years (Jesus, we're getting old).

After many attempts, CLOWN finally got a hold of Marek. He agreed to do a sub-brand with us to ease things over. I told CLOWN not to do anything without a contract but helped him out with his artwork for the logo. He gave us an ad, started building a website for us. It was slow, but I felt better for the other guys involved, I wasn't touching anything without a contract. Things were looking good, the guys were going to be designing shirts, and CLOWN was going to get his just shine, it was his name after all. Sounded good to me. Then it stopped. CLOWN had been getting worried, and so had the other guys in the crew. He was coming to New York regularly and not getting a hold of me. Now there was nothing happening and no offense to anyone, but I saw it coming.

In his response to my Twitter ramble, he said he 'won't pull dead weight', and 'everyone has been given ample opportunity to be a part'. I'm sorry, how could anyone be a part when they weren't even included in your plans, or given the heads up that you were going to use the name (and concepts but that's a whole other deal I don't want to get into right now), after shedding blood, sweat and tears for over 15 years over these 4 little letters? Also, I love that Katt Williams bit, good choice.

Excuse the ramble, just think my statement could have been taken as jealousy or coming from a place that is misunderstood. That's not the case. Take them as one old friend explaining how he felt another old friend should have approached a situation, even though I really shouldn't have to explain myself at all. Real Talk.

I'll admit it was done the wrong way but again, I'm not apologizing for my 144 or less of characters.

For the record, Marek, I'm actually proud of your success. I knew you were meant for big things since I met you, the same way I feel about the rest of the family. Otherwise, you would have never been in the crew in the first place. It just should have been reached with something you and your partners had come up with on your own, not something that means so much to a good group of people that considered you more than a friend, considered you family. Don't ever refer to it as TITS CREW (your employees do at trade shows) or 7175 again, you know I was producing under the 7175 name years ago, before you were even in the picture. You have my email, and I'm not hard to find in person. Good luck in 2010.

This is awesome. A bit lengthy, but worth the watch.

"Here is a look at an interesting Graffiti project that was created over 3 days on the west coast of Scotland. Titled The Ghost Village Project, it brought together 6 artists – Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126, and Derm, given free reign to paint in an abandoned 1970s village.

Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists’ stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved. Take a look at the video documenting the project below."

The Poster Cause Project is Live.

The Poster Cause Project launched yesterday with it's first release by eBoy, "The Super Bronco Battle". Edition of only 25 and 50% of the proceeds are going to the National Center For Missing And Exploited Children.

Sket will be the January release (proceeds going to The National Breast Cancer Foundation), followed by yours truly in February (with proceeds going to BAD RAP | Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit bulls).

The Poster Cause Project is an online effort to sell and promote artwork by underground artists in a very limited form all while donating 50% of all profits to charities and organizations in need.

Each month we will release a very limited print by a different artist with 50% of profits going to a specific charity or organization chosen by us or the artist.

In the beginning, the idea was simple. Support art. Support those in need. All in one place.
